Chilled Water Pipe Insulation Material
Chilled insulation is selected to match the thermal requirements of the system being insulated.
Cold insulation prevents condensation at temperatures at dew point or below and saves energy. An effective and properly insulated chilled system prevents costly thermal loss and reduces operating costs. Popular forms of chilled insulation are Armaflex, PIC, Fibreglass, Foam Glass, Elastomerics and Polystyrene.
Cold Insulation
Cold insulation is a type of insulation that is used to reduce the amount of heat that is transferred from the outside to the inside of a building or structure. It is used to keep buildings and other structures cool in the summer and to prevent heat gain in industrial and mechanical systems.
Some common types of chilled water pipe insulation materials include:
- Polyurethane foam: A type of spray foam that can be used to insulate against cold temperatures. It is also effective at sealing air leaks and reducing air infiltration.
- Polystyrene: This material is made from a type of plastic and is available in different forms such as beads, blocks, and foam.
- Polyisocyanurate: This is a type of polyurethane foam that has a higher R-value per inch than other types of insulation materials.
- Fiberglass: Also effective at insulating against cold temperatures over and above all its other properties.
- Mineral wool: Is made from rock or slag and is known for its fire resistance and ability to insulate against cold temperatures.
Cold insulation materials can be used in a variety of applications, including walls, attics, floors, roofs, and ductwork. They can be applied in the form of batts, loose fill, spray foam, and rigid board. The choice of insulation material will depend on the specific application and the desired level of insulation, and the environmental conditions of the location.
Polyurethane Foam
Effective chilled insulation with a low thermal conductivity for substances below freezing i.e, nitrogen, liquid carbon dioxide and butane. Polyurethane foam also allows for low smoke emission and low water vapor permeability.
Rubber Foam
Rubber foam is also often recommended for condensation control as the closed cell technology is highly resistant to moisture vapor.
